controlling biofouling every year and the results have been very damaging to
our marine environment. Toxic anti-fouling paints contain pesticides
and are contributing to the killing off of desirable
marine life. In many parts of the world many of
the most effective anti-fouling paints are being banned.
Industry practices relating to scraping,
cleaning and painting boat hulls is coming under close environmental
scrutiny, which will accelerate the restrictions and costs of using
anti-fouling paints that contain toxic elements. Simply put, the continuous
cleaning, scrapping and painting cycle by millions of boaters worldwide is
damaging our marine environment.
